In the bible, it says that Evangelion are the offspring of humans and angels, which has been translated into this very cool series. The EVA's are human creations made from the angels. The EVA's are "synthetic" angels encased in armor. This armor also acts as a restraint & a form of control over the EVA's themselves. The pilot is inserted in the unit's back in an entry plug full of a fluid called LCL. The pilots were all born exactly 9 months after the arrival of the angels, making them 14 years of age,which for some strange reason makes the unique in the fact that they can "synchronize" with the EVA's, allowing the children to control them. The EVA's are a representation of humans, and are henceforth humanoid creature. They can use a variety of weapons, including machine guns, sniper rifles, knives, swords staffs, bazookas, the Lance of Longinius & the devastatingly huge SSDF (Special Self Defence Force) Positron rifle. The knife the EVA's use is the progressive knife which vibrates on an ultrasonic scale, cutting through normal matter like it was butter, but does not seem to be as effective on the angels. The EVA's can generate their own AT (Absolute Terror) fields but these are not as powerful as the ones generated by the angels. The Positron rifle is a huge self propelled cannon used by EVA Unit-01 against the fifth angel Ramiel. It punches straight through the angel's AT field and the angel itself. The sniper rifle is used by Unit-00 in one of the last 6 episodes. Rei leans on a building, props the gun up on another and fires, without much effect. The
machine gun (pallet rifle) is a very flat automatic cannon, used against the fourth angel Shamshel. The bazooka is used against Zeruel by Asuka. It fires explosive shells and has quite a high rate of fire. There is one more weapon that I don't know the name of. It goes under the EVA's arm and wraps above it as well. Asuka fires it at one of the angels that is flying in orbit around the earth. It shoots fireballs into orbit, but doesn't penetrate the angels AT field. The Lance of Longinius is used by EVA Unit-00 and is thrown into space at an angel. As it spins through the Earth's atmosphere it becomes blurred because of it's speed. It punches through the AT field, hitting the angel & destroying it utterly, after which it cannot be retrieved.
